Website promotion techniques are changing a lot with time and nowadays social media marketing is used as a prime tool to target the so called social audience. Initially it might sound that a simple link in a video is not much worth but eventually it works as a good viral marketing tool.

Some of the modern ways i found myself are social bookmarking and commenting, blogging, video marketing like youtube, community site marketing like myspace and orkutting, several groups like google and yahoo. This kind of promotion brings instant result as well as grroms the site for a long term promotion. That means a site made just now can be promoted through these means untill the site ranks well on search engines using other optimization methods.

Overall website marketing is a daunting task, no doubt but putting the right kind of effort into each of these can be worth a million dollars. 

When I started to learn the techniques of SEO some 5 years back, I never realised it would evolve so much and to this extend. First of all for beginers SEO is nothing but a collection of techniques used to rank webpages well on Search engines like Google, Yahoo or Msn.

I have been studying this for years now, mostly through reading the materials available on the net and sharing ideas with others on forums and experimenting on my own. It's an amazing area of research, yeah I would call Search Engine Optimization techniques a research , bcos one has to always experiment to get the correct method to keep updated with the changes in the search engine alogirithm.

One of the other changes I have seen through the years, is the growth of Google as a sole leader. Earlier yahoo and msn were not too far away from google in terms of search engine dominance but now its at a controlling position. Google has far exceeding people's expectation as the best search engine the world can ever witness. Even though I have worked on all search  engine's and have optimized sites for all of these, I find it more difficult to do it on Google and still I say Google is the best. Infact, thats one of the reason it is the best. Bcos it doesn't allow lot of room for SEM's worldwide to manipulate rankings using wrong techniques of SEO.

So whats the mystery behind search engine optimization?

Around 200000 + people around the world say they are SEM's or people who are able to SEO a site. But the truth remains only around 3500 people or individuals around the world have the capability at will to play with the search engines the manner they like.

So whats the secret ? The Mystery?

The secret lies in ones capability to keep updated and experiment with ideas which not many people have. Most of the SEM's go through book by book approach and once they finish the book, they think they are so called SEM's which should be the biggest joke in the world. Bcos, most of the things I read in the book three years back are no more usefull in successful SEO of a site. It has changed a lot. It keeps changing every week, but the techniques should be changed atleast once in 6 months. One has to constantly experiment with a variety of own websites and implement different approaches for each of these and read the results to be successfull. Today you get a lot of SEO tools on the net but most of them are neglected or even if they are used, the results are not studied to the depth they should be.

So the mystery behind the success is - One has to update the techniques with the changing times to gain advantage over others. You have to move with the changes in the search engines alogorithm to be successfull.
